In Home Newborn Photography Session Details and Tips

Every in home newborn photography session is so different from another, especially when we are shooting in your home. From lighting, style, outfits, and many other factors – there are so many aspects that your photographer looks for. This is why I do a call, questionnaire and sometimes bring extra lighting just in case! This session is in the most beautiful home with huge windows everywhere, but we had a very gloomy day- you could never tell right?

Welcoming a new addition to your family is an incredibly special moment, and capturing those first precious days with your little one is something that you’ll cherish for years to come. In-home lifestyle newborn photography sessions with siblings are a wonderful way to capture these moments in a natural and relaxed setting.

Preparing for Your Session

Before your due date, I will help you choose outfits for each family member. I have a few blog posts on what to wear to make this easier. I will ask you to put me on the “notify baby has arrived” list. This way, I can check my schedule and we can choose a date for your session. I usually plan to set the session between 1-3 weeks after birth to get those sleepy baby photos.

Honestly though, we can also do sessions a little later as well! I try to base it on how mama feels and making sure she is ready. Most in home newborn photography sessions are done during the week beginning in the morning for best light!

During the your In home Newborn Photography Session

When I arrive, they’ll start by getting to know your family and finding the best light in your home. Hopefully your baby has recently had a full feeding, if not then we will definitely stop for feedings, changes, and snuggles- we are on their time now. If you have older siblings, then I will spend a lot of time with them. Playing, talking, and getting them to interact with baby.

I always tell parents to keep small non messy snacks (pez, smarties, Cheerios) close by. I use these to hide around baby and your toddler has to find them- this gets them close to baby for photos even if they might be a little unsure about getting too close. During our session, I want you to take in all the newborn goodness.

Bringing home a new baby is not easy and rarely calm and quiet – so I want you to take in this time and just snuggle, cherish your family, and smile even when your toddler is doing the opposite of what you want. I promise, we will get some great moments in. The session lasts about 1.5 hours, but it goes by so quickly!

After the Session

I will try to get some sneak peeks up on Instagram, so make sure to follow me there! It takes about 2 weeks for your gallery to be ready. We will set up an ordering/viewing appointment in person or online. This is where you to view your gallery and select your wall art and album details.

In-home lifestyle newborn photography sessions are a wonderful way to capture the moments that come with welcoming a new baby. Whether you’re looking to create a beautiful album or simply want to document this special time in your family’s life, an in-home lifestyle newborn photography session is something you won’t regret.
