I have worked with children for years. If you are planning an Alpharetta Newborn Session with a Toddler with me soon, make sure to read this whole post! I used to teach 1st and 2nd grade before becoming a family photographer.
When I tell you that I know kids… I know kids! I have worked with so many different personalities that you really do not need to worry about your older kiddos. If your child is shy… I will be more calm and chat with them until they are comfortable… if you kiddo is a bit more playful, I have tons of games and tricks to help them stay with me and get those photos that we want without tears or anyone getting upset or in trouble! Let me work my magic! There are a few ways you can help though!
Be Flexible:
Keep in mind that toddlers have their own unique personalities and can be unpredictable during a photoshoot. It’s essential to remain patient, positive, and flexible throughout the session, allowing your photographer to capture those candid and authentic moments. Trust me on this one, I will find a way to get those photos. I have tons of games up my sleeve!
Involve the Toddler:
To ensure a smooth photoshoot, involve your toddler in the process. Let them know in advance about the session and explain it in an age-appropriate manner. Consider including them in the decision-making process, such as selecting their outfit or picking out props. By involving them, you can create a sense of excitement and engagement that will enhance their cooperation during the shoot. I will involve them by have them make you laugh for parent photos, “fixing” my camera, and whispering silly sounds in your ear.
Take Breaks:
Toddlers have limited attention spans, so breaks during the photoshoot are essential. Plan for short intervals when your toddler can have a snack, play, or engage in a preferred activity. This will help keep them engaged and cooperative throughout the session. Please bring small CLEAN snacks and water! If I notice that your little one needs a break, I will focus on only baby or parents for a bit until they are ready!
Relax and Enjoy the Process:
Remember, a photoshoot with a newborn and a toddler can be a bit louder, but it’s also an opportunity to create lasting memories. Relax, embrace the unpredictability, and enjoy the process. Smile throughout the whole thing, because I am still clicking away! Trust me to capture beautiful images, and cherish this unique time in your family’s life.
